WHAT A DAY! Today I woke up wanting to make today an enjoyable and memorable day for my hubby, little did I know that it would be, but for most of the wrong reasons. Why is it that on the day that we are suppose to celebrate our Father/Husband, we end up driving him bonkers?
Derek and I were asked to speak in church on Fathers. We were up late the night before going over our talks and trying to be prepared. I knew my talk was going to be a few words and all tears, but Derek had prepared a great talk and I was excited to hear it. We arrived early and pumped the kids up to be reverent and good during sacrament. I had packed a great bag of quiet activities and goldfish so things would run smoothly. Before the meeting even started Alli had managed to dump out a bag of goldfish and hit Derek's glasses off several times. I went up to give my talk and of course the kids revolt and go crazy. Xander went and sat with some strangers Alli cried and yelled the entire time, by the time it was Derek's turn to speak he had crooked glasses, an untucked shirt, and a scattiwompus (made up word) tie. He started his talk and was doing an excellent job when Alli hit her head on the bench and I had to leave the meeting. As I was attending to her, Xander had followed me out but then ran around the building to the other side of the room and had managed to find his way up in front of the congregation. I was mortified! I wasn't about to go up and grab him. In the mean time Alli had discovered a seeing eye dog and had high tailed it over to pet him. I scooped her up (everyone knows you aren't suppose to pet them except babies of course) and she threw a huge fit! I managed to get her out of the room and calmed down in time for the meeting to be over. Kennedy had given up on all of us and went to find a friend to sit with. What an ordeal!!! I don't know why anyone would ask us to speak again besides the entertainment factor.
We then had to rush to primary to teach sharing time to the younger children. I had to run and get copies made (which took forever) and by the time I got back, Derek had to start without me and was well into the lesson by himself. He did a great job, but Kennedy got embarrassed and started crying during our family lesson. We calmed her down and left and went to nursery with the little kids. Derek stayed in there with Alli and had to stop her from pounding on any thing or one who came close to her.
We came home to a messy house and no dinner ready. :( I was so worried about speaking I let everything else go.We snacked on anything we could find and took a family nap. at 5 I got up to check on my roast and made Derek get up to make the potatoes (He does such a great job I don't even try). We had dinner that he helped cook and then he washed all the big dishes for me. What a guy!
All in all it was a crazy and frustrating day for him I am sure, but he never complained and was willing to help me on his special day. I love him to pieces and all his puts up with. I am hoping by next year I can get it right. :)

I was laughing throughout the entire post! My mom had told me about how you cried through your talk on Sunday - she thought it was too cute. But she never mentioned about your kids running around. I'm sure most people didn't notice... especially if my mom didn't.
But ask her about the story that tops yours, when my youngest brother started beating me up in sacrament meeting. (He was 10 and I was 25!) There were 3 people prying him off of me, with the Bishopric watching the entire ordeal.
:) You are a cute speaker Kristi! I know my days of those stories are just around the corner! Hunter has learned the word no and how to stomp his feet! IM sure derek realized how great his family really is that day:)
We had the same dinner...mmmmmm
It dosnt get much better!
Are you guys gonna try and come for christmas?
I need your number so text me or something love ya
Oh dear! I could feel the stress that was coming from your sacrament meeting experience. That so does not sound fun at all. Why is it always on the days when you really NEED your kids to behave that they are the craziest?
I'm sure both of your talks were wonderful!
derek does look like he is fun to open presents with!! What was the surprise? Im dying here!!! Thats cute how he guesses what it is like my DAD:)
