Friday we were planning on going camping with some friends here in beautiful Maine but due to some ear issues (Derek's) we decided to stay home. Kennedy of course was crushed and so me being the great mom that I am :) guilt ed Derek into doing something else for the kids. He decided to stay with the camp theme and just have our campout in the backyard. Genius!
To make a long story short, we started setting up the tent at 3ish and didn't finish until 6ish. Three little helpers are more of a hindrance than help-especially when one specific boy helper (Xander) breaks one of the rods to the tent. Also the other big boy helper (Derek) being ever so patient forced a rod through the designated area to rough and ripped a hole in it. BOYS!!!! We then had to take a short jaunt to the hardware store to get the necessary items to fix the brand new tent. :) I ran to the store to get the smores and then we met back up to cook and finish setting up.
We grilled hot dogs and hamburgers ate on a blanket and then toasted smores over the stove-my fav part! Alli was ready for bed so we put her in her crib and the rest of us went outside to tell ghost stories. Kennedy came up with some great ones, and Xander's were a lot like Kennedy's except without all the detail. :) I then went back into the house and Derek got to stay with the kids the rest of the night. They made it through the whole night and were so happy to have gone camping!
Derek and I were exhausted and even a bit grumpy throughout the experience, but it was well worth it. The kids loved it!

What a cute story! Mom and Dad get an A+ for effort. Great memories are made just this way!!!
That is definitely my kind of camping too. Especially the part where you leave Derek out there in the tent while you sleep in the nice cozy bed inside. We've never done smores on the stove though. That is a great idea! I had to laugh about the ordeal putting up the tent. I think Xander and Carter really are clones of each other. Those cute little rascals!!! It looks like your cute kids had lots of fun, so mission accomplished!!!
That is so cute. You are such a good mom, your kids will always remember that kind of camping. They kids are getting SO big, it's been to long since we've seen you guys! ( i hope the ears are ok)
How fun! I'm glad you're liking the east coast so much. We'll know for sure where we're going in a month or so. there's a high chance we'll be in France!!!!!!
I'm crazy busy trying to sell all our stuff. thanks for the birthday wishes:)
Love you!!
