Yesterday I made the mistake of saying to my hubby "I am going to Walmart really quick to grab a few things for dinner I will be right back." Well, right back meant over 2 hours later. I thought I would share with you (or vent at you) my experience at the store.
I should have known that it was going to be a bad trip before I even got there because there was a ton of traffic and I almost ran out of gas trying to get to the gas station. We chugged our way in to the station (no joke) and then had to wait in a line just to even get to the pump. I waited ever so patiently ;) and when done fueling, the pump tells me to go inside because there was something wrong with the machine outside. GRRR! Okay so I finally get done with that and 45 minutes later I head to Wally World.
I get a great parking spot (bonus) and head on in. Xander loves the huge carts where kids can sit in front of the cart and not take up all your space, but if you have ever used one of them you know that they are a beast to push. I caved and got that cart and went on my way to find what we needed. We were doing great until I went back to the pop isle to get some drinks. On the way out of there Xander stuck out his foot and knocked a huge bottle of wine or some sort of alcoholic beverage all of the floor. The glass shattered everywhere and the smell was horrid. I looked around and wanted to die! Two other customers were staring at me with disgust. GRRR! I then went on a search for an employee so that I could get someone to clean it up. I ended up going all the way to the front and talking to the door greeter. He mostly just stared at me and had me repeat my request three times before he got out his radio to call someone. I went back to the back to wait so that I could help clean up and pay for the broken bottle. I waited and waited and waited and no one came. So what do I do? I march all the way back up front and go through the same procedure. This time I hear them page maintenance so I go back and wait, and wait, and wait. No one.
So I am worried someone is going to get hurt and I start picking up the glass bottle and cut my finger and thumb. I am now bleeding and getting really annoyed! Xander is getting restless and I am ready to scream. I get all the glass picked up and go get paper towels to wipe up the mess (which was everywhere). I mopped up as much as I could with paper towels and warned everyone who came back there to be careful. Still no one has shown up. I did my best to clean up and then went on my way (horrible I know, but I did).
I hurried and finished the rest of my shopping and went up front to checkout. True to Walmart's everywhere, there were about 3 checkers and about 60 people in line. I of course chose a line that had a beginner checker who didn't know any produce codes and struggled with the bagging department to say the least. I was trying to keep Xander entertained when the oler women in front of me starts yelling at Mark (checker). "This women behind me (myself) wants to get out of here before her son graduates high school!" AAHH! I know she was trying to make a point, but did she have to use me? Poor Mark then gets more flustered and starts making mistakes left and right. I felt really bad for the kid and started helping him bag groceries while Xander broke into some starbursts and went to town. It was finally my turn and both Mark and myself were almost in tears.
I finally made it to the car and got everything loaded in and went to pull out but couldn't because two people (one in a car and one woman on foot) were fighting to get my spot. I tried to go one way and the car would inch up, I tried to go the other way and the woman would block the way with her cart. AAAHHH! "Are you kidding me people?" I managed to get out of the parking lot and headed for home. I had almost hit home when I realized that I had forgotten to pick up Kennedy at her friends, and I hadn't gotten any ice at the store. GRRR! I got Kennedy went to the 1st gas station but they were out. Seriously. I went to the 2nd station and got a nasty bag of ice and paid 2 dollars for it. :( I returned home hours later and ready to go bonkers.
I know this was long and painful to read, but I promise this is really what happened. I just had to write it down so the next time I go on a "really quick" trip to Walmart I will think twice! I hope I am not the only one who has days like this, but if I am and you see me at Walmart don't yell at or laugh too hard at the crazy lady with 3 kids. :)

Yikes!!! I had a panic attack just reading that story! Im so sorry you had such a an awful quick trip. But I think you bagging groceries cancels out you leaving that mess. actually it gives you bonus points because I would not have cleaned it up! so kuddos to you. im glad you made it home with both your kiddos! love ya
Man!! You would of thought yall had a hurricane because that is what all the stores are like out here-if you find one open. Bless your heart. I think you did a great job of keeping your cool. Good for you! Love ya, Auntie Vicki
First off I have to say that your little Alli-Bell is so dang cute. Really, she is adorable!
As for the Wal-Mart experience; you are a trooper. I would have probably just left the store crying and ended up not taking any groceries home. It sounds like Xander and Carter could be the best of friends. They would cause all sorts of havoc together. It's unbelievable how fast two-year-old boys can get into trouble. They are so dang cute though that after a moment of frustration, you can't help but laugh. You are so the sweetest for helping the little checker/bagger guy. Your compassion always comes shining through. Better luck at good old Wally's next time. Love ya!!!
Kristi-my day was not exactly like yours, but I did think it was going to finish me off! When I was expecting the baby before I had Aspen, I got up one Sunday and I was getting ready for church. Instead of undoing the necklace that Scott gave me, I tried to slip it over my head. (Which I had done before) Of course I broke it in a million pieces, with beads and pearls flying all over the bedroom. When I ironed my dress, I scorched the lace around the collar. Because of that, I was late going to church and then when I was sitting in Sacrament, I felt something "give" and knew I was about to miscarry. I ran out just as they said "Amen" and almost knocked this older gentlemen on his backside. I made it to the bathroom and did miscarry. I went home and was determined to make an apple pie for Scott. I made the pie and when it was baked I set it on top of the stove to cool. Little did I know that someone had left the burner on (could it have been me?)and the glass pan shattered. When I went to grab the pie, the towel I was using caught on fire and smoked up the whole kitchen. (Yes, it gets better!) Later in the evening we were sitting in the living room having home evening and I look out the window and see this car go bump, bump over something. That something was our dog. I ran out to see if she was alright (which she was!?) and slammed the front door and my wreath I had made flipped off of the hanger and fell to the ground and shattered into a million pieces! Imagine the ladies surprise, who had just hit my dog, when I began laughing hysterically!! It was quite the day and even now it surprises me how much went wrong in only a 10 hour period!! I am proud that I lived through it and so will you!
Hang in there and keep smiling!
Mamma Mia
P.S. I would of left it right after I told the greeter the first time. You are way more noble than I am!
Kristi-I just wanted to tell you how much I love you! (Even if you do think I have quirks). You are the best daughter-in-law/daughter we could of ever had. Austin has his work cut out for him to keep up with the catch that Derek made. Actually, we chose you first, we just needed Derek to see things our way! Thanks for being such a great mom and braving Wal-Mart and the World to raise my grandbabies and my big baby! Love you, Sweets!
Kristi I am with your MIL I would have left the mess after I told the greeter too! You are so good! Man that seriously sounds like the trip from hell. Glad you came out alive! :)
Hey Kristi! Yea, life is so crazy sometimes. Like the night Ashley and Mark got sealed and I lost my marbles! You are so much better at not freaking out than I am. Sounds like you got after that wierd lady that was bugging you the other day. She better stay away, or she'll have some angry poulsons from ID, UT and AZ on her like white on rice.
That truly sounds like a nightmare! Those days just never end and its hard to recover afterward. You did all you could about the bottle, its their fault for not showing up...twice! I'm sorry you cut your finger too! I have had a few days like these and it just seems like someone somewhere is just laughing their head off while all this is happening! The other day I went to hobby lobby and like five minutes through Noah want to get down, i remember when kennedy always wanted to get down in stores, anyway I tried that because he wouldn't stop screaming and then he started pulling everything off the shelves so I pick him up and he starts hitting me in the face, picture those plastic toy dolls that have windmill arms, over and over, and then he starts pinching my arms and neck, all this accompanied by screaming. I was holding him with one arm and pushing the cart with the other so he pretty much had free reign! I was so embarassed, plus I felt bad because i was so angry at him I wanted to squish his head, and also it hurt pretty bad! So I started crying on my way to check out, which they have the same managers or something as walmart because there was one checker girl, six people, and she didn't know how much scrapbook paper cost! So we finally made it out but I was mortified! I called adam and after telling him the who story then asking what I should do he said, "i'm sure you'll figure it out." I was like, "I didn't know you could opt out of parenting, that's good to know!" Anyway it was pretty crazy! Sorry for the long story but I hope that you can recover from that horrible day!
Kristi-have you noticed that your family-in-laws are long winded??? I was telling Aimee Ellott about your experience and mine the day I miscarried and she said "Don't forget you were speaking in Sacrament that day!" How could I have forgotten that little item? I remember Pam ran home and got me a change of everything (and I mean e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g) and I went back into the chapel and said to my poor unsuspecting husband-"I just lost the baby" and then proceeded to stand up and give my talk!!! While his mouth was hanging open! Oh, yes--I think I win!!!! Mamma Mia
Um your a Saint I would of just told someone then moved on with my shopping! How is your cuts now? Well next time maybe you should go when Derek could keep one of the babies:) Knock on wood my quick trips have not been as bad. Well I love reading about all the great life you are leading and so far away:) We Miss you all TONZ
